Pakistani Minister Assassinated: Shahbaz Bhatti
Pakistan's Minorities Minister was assassinated this morning in Islamabad, shot while driving from his home to a cabinet meeting. Shahbaz Bhatti was the only member of the cabinet who was Christian. He had previously received death threats for challenging Pakistan's strident anti-blasphemy laws. Like Salman Taseer, the Punjab governor who was assassinated in January, Bhatti was a supporter of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman sentenced to death for insulting the Prophet Muhammad.
