Dancers in Lahore Now Turning to Prostitution
Jared gets the credit for spying this BBC article. An unexpected casualty of the increasingly religious extremism in Pakistan is the loss of one of Lahore's cultural foundations: the dancers of Shahi Mohallah. Harassed by bomb blasts, most of the dancers have stopped dancing. The lucky ones are trying to find work dancing in private houses or traveling to Dubai. The unlucky ones have turned to prostitution. I find it ironic that extremists trying to control the immorality of dance have instead created a much greater evil: an entire group of women who have little choice but to sell themselves for money.
